Back in Action

April 25, 2011

Well, I apologize for the lapse in posts.  Art Show madness and theater set design filled most of March and April.  During the crazy times I need to carefully select what to focus on and I felt that my blog was not at the top of that list.   Of course, that means lots of things to share with all of you!

This year’s Art Show theme was Folk Tales, Fables, and Fairy Tales.  It was a big hit with all the students from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade.  I had to get pretty creative with some of the projects and it was a lot of fun for me.  Each grade level created two art projects inspired by a Folk, Fable or Fairy Tale.

To help pull the entire thing together, I went to Painted Paper, one of my go to artroom blogs for inspiration.  This art teacher comes up with some great ideas and often uses Murals as back drops for student work!  Ah-ha!  So I set the kiddos to work creating some murals of our own to help support our tales!

Some second graders helping paint murals and castle walls

First graders created a pond mural and jumping frog princes.

Another First grade mural with Whistling Monsters.  We read a folk tale about a Whistling Monster in the Amazon Rain Forest!

Kindergarten created Puss n’ Boots cats and added Boots to tell the French Fairy Tale

Kindergarten students painted self portraits and added a crown to add a “Royal” flair to the piece!

Stay tuned…..tomorrow I will post about 2nd and 3rd grade art show projects!
