It is that time of year when I drop off the blog world and focus on Art Shows!  I have two coming up in the first two weeks of April and lots of other commitments mixed in between and a Wizard of Oz Play to help create set back drops for!  Wish me luck…..

Preparing for the art shows has involved a lot of new lesson plans!  I went with a Folktales, Fables, and Fairy tales theme and had to create all new art projects.  Even with the researching, trying out new ideas, trial runs, and then implementing them; I am having an absolute blast!  It was just what I needed to re-energize my teaching!

Each grade level will have two art projects featured at the art show based upon a tale or myth.  Kindergarten has been busy painting portraits of themselves and adding in a crown!  They are absolutely adorable!

First grade has created Whistling monsters based on a story from the Amazon Rain Forest.  We also created Frog Princes with green painted papers.

Second Grade used Snow White’s Mirror Mirror on the Wall to inspire Self Portraits.   We created a painting of us looking into a mirror.  It was fun to paint and collage two portraits to give the illusion of looking into a mirror.

Third grade created Sleeping Beauty portraits.  We used water paints to create a portrait of our self sleeping under a bright quilt. We glued the portrait onto a handmade bed frame with a piece of cloth for a pillow.  We are now creating Sea Creatures inspired by the legend of Atlantis the lost city.  We painted papers with bright colors and will cut them up to create sea life!

I will try and get back on here and share what Fourth and Fifth grade are creating for the art show!
