First Grade Scarecrows

November 9, 2010

First graders created some fall landscapes in tempera paint.  We learned all about horizon lines and how an artist might use them to paint a landscape. We also looked at various pictures of fields during this time of year.  We may not have a lot of big open fields in this area but most everyone got the idea!

After we painted the landscapes we set to work creating scarecrow collages.  We used scraps of fabric and straw and pasted everything down onto the landscapes.  I think they are just adorable!

This was a great project and proved to be successful.  It was a lot of fun watching each student paint with the fall colors and then create his or her own version of a scarecrow!
