Third Grade Falling Portraits

February 1, 2010

Third grade has spent a few weeks on a fun painting project! We talked about perspective and how objects that are closer to the viewer appear larger and objects that are further away will be smaller. We used this to create a portrait of ourself falling from the sky. The hands and feet are the closest to the viewer and the body and face are further away. This optical illusion creates depth and helps create the idea of falling.

We also discussed facial expressions and how are face would look if we were falling. The third graders really enjoyed this project and took the opportunity to be creative with where they were falling. Please enjoy!
